Despite overwhelming evidence that orcas suffer immensely in captivity, the Miami Seaquarium in Florida and Marineland Antibes in France continue to confine these social, intelligent, and sensitive animals to small concrete tanks. Holding animals captive for our amusement is a form of speciesism—a human-supremacist worldview—and it must end.
Lolita was violently torn away from her family in Washington’s Puget Sound decades ago.

Lolita is the orca from Washington and the last surviving orca at Seaquarium in Miami. This is one of the oldest and smallest tanks in the world. But that’s not the saddest part – Lolita has been alone for more than forty years – her tank mate Hugo committed suicide in 1980.
It’s becoming more and more clear that orcas don’t do well in captivity. This has inspired Marineland Park in Antibes, France, to plan to retire their orcas, Wikie, Inouc, Moana, and Keijo to sanctuaries – where they can live their days in a more natural and stimulating environment.

But unfortunately, orcas aren’t the only animals that don’t do well in marine parks – dolphins and other large marine mammals hate being couped up in tiny, boring tanks.
So, today it’s your chance to help save Lolita and ALL her marine mammal friends at Seaquarium and Marineland Park.
A New Dawn
Places like France are starting to see how speciest it is to keep wild animals in small spaces for our own entertainment. They are banning marine parks that have live shows for entertainment. This is something that should be implemented worldwide.
The trouble is that most of these animals have been in captivity too long to be released back into the wild. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing for us to do. Petitioning to get these creatures moved to more natural habitats – with bigger, more exciting tanks, and more friends is the best thing we can do for them.
That counts for all the dolphins, belugas, and other performing animals that are forced into captivity. Seaside sanctuaries offer these animals a place where they can live as naturally as possible – but where they’re still taken care of – because they never learned how to care for themselves in the wild.
In the past humans thought they were better and didn’t care as much about animals. But our eyes are starting to open. Be part of the movement to stop live animal shows at marine parks. Help Lolita and all her friends have a happy retirement by adding your signature to the petition today.
